When people say that being too judgmental (dictionary=to form an opinion) is unfair, I definitely agree. To be more clear of this, let me give you a few situations as examples;
Situation 1
A teenage boy enters the food stall, wearing a sweater, in mid-afternoon.
Zach: hekeleh, tengahari buta panas2 cmnih pon nak pakai cmtuh...
Bobby: entahh...nk eksyen lar tuhh..
Situation 2
A group of teenagers are sitting around at the side of the road, strumming guitars and singing happily.
Kak Limah: ni mesti budak2 menganggur nih..xde keje lainlah tu..
Abang Seman: x educated....
Situation 3
A girl waves hello to a guy in a hallway.
Tipah: heh nak menggatal kat tempat lainlah..
Sally: eeii tercemar pandangan aku..sini tempat utk blaja, bukan menggatal..
Maybe, sometime ago, I've been in these kinds of situations; the judge, and the judged. If I've been the judge, I despise my act, and I apologise deeply to those who I've judged. And surely, because there are times when I've been judged irrationally, I know how it feels to be accused wrongly.
What we've done is wrong, because we've made speculations out of brief observations. Why have we acted as if we know about other people as detailed as knowing their pulses? They are random citizens who we bump into in or daily lives; we don't know their family profile, their personality, and sometimes, we don't even know their names.
What kind of authority do we own to tell them to be 'normal'?
For instance, the guy who wears a sweater in mid-afternoon. By wearing that, does it hurt us? Do we get cataracts by looking at him? Are we the ones who get hot? It's his style, his ways, it's him. Let's put ourselves in his shoes to understand him better. We are wearing our favourite t-shirt to a concert and somebody points at us while laughing hysterically, uttering under his breath, "Baju zaman bila kau pakai ni weh? Ni concert laa, CONCERT! Bukan MUZIUM! Bahahahahaahaha!" Pissed off already?
And we can't read their minds to know the reason behind their acts.
For example, Kak Limah and Abang Seman who accuse the group of teenagers of being uneducated failures..
What's our proof? Based on my experience, my super genius friends aren't the type who eats books 24/7...some are avid cinema-goers, some sleep more hours than you can imagine, some have weird hobbies that don't include studying. It could be that those teenagers are all lawyers-or-engineers-or-doctors-to-be?
And the girl who waves to a guy.
They could be friends since childhood..or maybe even fraternal twins? Well, as long as they aren't doing anything wrong in front of us, we shouldn't poke our noses in their lives. There's one hadith related to false accusations:
Rasulullah S.A.W. bersabda lanjut: “Jika kamu berkata mengenai perkara yang benar-benar berlaku pada dirinya bererti kamu mengumpatnya, jika perkara yang tidak berlaku pada dirinya bererti kamu memfitnahnya.” (Hadis riwayat Abu Hurairah)
So from now on, we shouldn't be too judgmental, okay? :)) If I were to be doing a mistake like this one day, please, please, please remind me about this..:) Thank you.
